Dog days of summer strike across the state

Buy a Photo!

Mike McAndrew/Staff

A man prepares to tug a youngster on a boogie board along the surf Sunday at Oceano State Vehicular Recreation Area. Also trying to beat the heat, Max, an Alaskan Malamute, escorted by Don Lewis, gets a cool drink of water. The National Weather Service forecasts Central Coast highs today in the 60s to 70s at the beaches and upper 80s to low 100s inland. Mild southwest winds of 15 mph are

anticipated in the afternoon into evening, with partly cloudy skies and a 20 percent chance of rain after midnight. Some forecast models predict only muggy conditions from the high humidity, while others anticipate a slight chance of showers for the

region. Across the state, triple-digit temperatures over the weekend brought

overheated visitors to the beaches to cool off and sent power use soaring, causing a power-watch to be issued statewide. See related story on page A4.
